Jenna is another senior rep of mine, she attends North County High School. She plays basketball and volleyball. She also lifeguards in the summer. My cousin recently had a baby. A beautiful baby boy.... I was lucky enough to go to their home last weekend and capture this new addition. I stepped way out of my comfort zone and decided to do a lifestyle session, no pressure on posing baby or worrying about baby sleeping, just photograph them at home, together. I think this is one of my favorite sessions ever. And even the cat got in on the photo shoot. :)

Big sis was so funny, wasn't thrilled about holding him but is definitely smitten with him. :)

I love these girls... I have been photographing them for 3 years now. And they are always so good for me and are so photogenic.

It was COLD on the day of Merri's session. We had other plans, but because of the weather we had to rearrange... and I think that it still worked out great. Happy Birthday little miss! :)

I think this is my favorite, Merri and her doll Sage. :)

Wyatt {Missouri Family/Newborn Photographer}

My goal for this newborn session was to focus more on them in their home than to pose the baby. I did some posing at the end, because, let's be honest, who doesn't love to see a squishy newborn all curled up asleep.... but it worked out great because Wyatt was wide awake when I got there and by the time we handled him a little and changed his clothes a lot when it was time to pose, we had hardly any trouble at all. While mom and I were trying to get little one to sleep, dad and big brother "hunted bears" and I did get a few shots of that.... that is the beauty of a lifestyle session. Thank you Cole family for allowing me to work with your beautiful children. <3 Happy New Year

Getting my mojo back

When I first found photography, I jumped in head first, read everything I could get my hands on. Every little piece of information, joined a ton of online forums and found Flickr. Flickr is where I learned the most, inspired by amazing photographers who were eager to befriend me and answer my questions. There was no competition, no cattiness, just knowledge and inspiration. Then I got busy with my business and all of that fell to the way side, I stopped photographing for me. Well, one of my resolutions for 2013 is to get creative again, for me, no one else. This is what heals my soul, to take a photo just for me, it may have my kids in it, it may not, and that's ok. I need this, and already I'm feeling those creative juices start to flow and DAMN it feels good. So please follow along with me here, on facebook or flickr. I'm so excited to see what this coming year will bring.

I had my first ever birth session. What an experience that was. Mom's labor was fast and I was home by 7pm. :) Missi is a client of mine and when I found out she was expecting, I approached her with this idea. I'm so happy she said yes. I wish I had photos like this when I had my children.... sneak peek for the Cole Family. I can not wait to do this baby's newborn session this weekend! :)

their whole family was there... they had no idea the sex of the baby, so during the birth, Missi's mom called her sisters (in the waiting room) and face timed to announce if it was a boy or a girl. How fun!

I did a little mini shoot first on Saturday with Amy (the smallest Layton) for her birthday pics. Shelley had the idea to go into the carousel and photograph her there and it was a great idea! So cute! And the girls had fun.. and then we walked around Faust park for the rest of our session. Oh my GOSH it was crowded with photogs, probably the last decent weekend of the year (or possibly) it didn't hurt us though, I still managed to get some smiles... and giggles!

Like anything I do, once I get an idea in my head, I must act on it immediately or it will fizzle out quickly. I'm going to be honest now, lay it all out on the table...since starting my photography journey, I always lead with my eye, doing what everyone else did, others bought backdrops for newborns and indoor work, then I must buy them too. Baskets and bows, yep... props, uh huh. So why then do newborn shoots shake me to my bones? I'm usually not ever satisfied with them, though I'm pretty hard on myself anyway, my own worst critic. I had a conversation last night with a fellow photog who does BEAUTIFUL newborn work. BEAUTIFUL... and we both have this love of photographing from a "fly on the wall" type of angle. To be there but almost invisible. Those are ALWAYS my most favorite shots, in whatever shoot I'm doing. Ok yes, I do love when I get a child to look at me with their big beautiful eyes and smile, but to catch them interacting with mom and dad in a completely different way, always my favorite shot. ALWAYS. So why not then, move to what I enjoy more and get rid of what makes me want to cry? Starting in 2013, I will be doing lifestyle sessions... these are not to be confined to newborn shoots. Though that is what all of my newborn sessions will be from here on out. But a lifestyle session can be a normal family session, in your home or a place that you find near to you. A playground, a swimming pool, your bath tub (you'll see why that is not crazy in a moment) a carnival, it is more of a documentary session. I will have a few where I will want my subjects to look at me and smile, but no more back drops, no more baskets and props. I think that, for me, those shots, in my home, with a new baby and siblings would be much more precious than a posed baby shot.. yes I do still love those posed baby shots, but I would love to have some lifestyle shots of my own kids. I have a lot of my son when he was home with me all day long and they are some of my favorites, him playing with his favorite toy, sitting on the couch with his favorite blanket, always tugs at my heart strings.

And one more thing I am going to offer in 2013 are birth sessions. I will come to the hospital when you go into labor, capture all of it from almost start to finish. I wish, oh how I wish, I had this when I was in labor with my three kids. For the first two, hubby was way too nervous to handle a camera during and for the last, it went so quickly that, well, we don't have many. Pricing and details to come soon on the birth sessions. I am looking for pregnant mommies, due in 2013, to help me build my portfolio in this. You will receive a huge discount and other incentives (to be determined soon) watch for post soon if you are interested. For now, a few examples of some lifestyle shoots I have done. And it's funny, I was telling my friend, I wasn't sure I would have enough to even showcase it, but going back at least 2 years, I have a lot... apparently I need to start listening to my inner voice more. :)

Oh it was cold on the day of this session, it was windy... and Ryder was a trooper. He did SO good, did not complain one time. I worked fast and we did jackets and blankets in between shots. Not the longest session I've had and not the most proofs, but I was able to get Ryder's beautiful blue eyes and a glimpse of his baby brother. :)

Tori contacted me back in June (I believe) for a session for her new baby... as I am cutting back on the amount of new babies, we decided to wait until fall. We had a beautiful day on Sunday, cool but perfect weather. The kids did great, really they did. It was close to their winding down time, the fact that I got as many good eye contact shots at all is a wonderful thing! And mom and dad, they were sooooo relaxed and fun to work with, I know that in their minds they were thinking "This.is.a.disaster." but it wasn't... and look at te great shots I got, more to come in your gallery Cox family. I have never done a mini session day. I'm glad I decided too this year. It was a quick way to get people in who either were late booking and then I had no dates or wanted a short and sweet session with a bonus, images on a cd to print from. I am having one more in October... still have slots open if anyone is interested. Cost is either $125 for 5 images on a cd or $150 for 10 images on a cd... money is due when you book your time slot. I have never ever done a mini session day... but decided this year to give it a try. If all goes well, I'll do another one in October (time permitting) and possibly in the spring. So, details; 15 minute time slots, $125 for 5 images on a cd or $150 for 10 images on a cd....(you will be able to choose your images from an online gallery of probably 20) Monday Sept 24, Engler Park time slots from 4:30 to 6:30. LONG blog post... but I wanted to share our time on Dauphin Island. I love love that place so much. It truly is like stepping back in time, no mini golf places, one or two souveneir shops, no fast food... it's AWESOME! We always have such a great time, feel relaxed and rejuvenated. Oh these boys... they are the cutest. I have been photographing Carter for a while... he has come a long way with me. I remember the first session, he would hardly look at me... now he smiles for me and tells me stories. ;) And his little brother... such a sweet little guy. We had a great session last Friday. It was hot but the boys were excellent... and I was able to photograph them with their mom which is something I never ever do... making me think I need to do more mother/son sessions or father/daughter sessions. Fuszner/Howard wedding

Leigh contacted me last summer to inquire about my wedding prices and book an e-session. The day we photographed their e-session I had two sessions and Jack's birthday party, I had so much on my mind... after I met the two of them, we were to go to the first location...I backed up and hit a pole in the parking lot where we had met. :\ But... it did not leave the session with a black cloud, I had so much fun with these two. They are so comfortable with each other, they have fun and enjoy life. So I knew that I would have fun with them at their wedding.

Saturday May 26 proved to be a beautiful summer like day. Highs in the 90's with high humidity, I was thanking the good Lord above that they were getting married indoors. Everything came off without a hitch... we were running a bit behind to the photos after the wedding, so we only did a few :( but the bride and groom were ready to get to the reception. I was BEAT after, I always feel like I have been run over by an 18 wheeler after a wedding... you would not think it would be so physical but it is! Leigh and Erik, congratulations again. Here is your sneak peek. I hope to have galleries up for you by Friday... as the uploading seems to take as long as the editing. ;) Enjoy! When little miss G's mommy sent me a text on the day of our session and told me that little one was grouchy, I came prepared for extreme fussiness.... was she grouchy, yes... was she absolutely hilarious with her grouchiness and attitude, YES! I had so much fun capturing this little one, simply because her mom and dad knew that she was grouchy and that was ok, it was her at that moment. To me, those are the photos I treasure the most of my children, the photos that remind me of the exact moment I snapped the shutter.. not the same smile over and over but in different clothing. :)

I WILL go back there and take my kids, we didn't even see a 1/4 of the property, such amazing places... the light was BEAUTIFUL and well, we had a lot of fun exploring. Isla is ONE! {Missouri Children's Photographer}

Wow, not to pat myself on the back, but I could have blogged this whole session. That just tells me that I finally was back in my groove with this one, feeling good about it and creative. FINALLY!

Isla's session was scheduled for last week, but the weather was less than stellar and her birthday outfit was not in yet, so we rescheduled for Wednesday. I didn't know until that day that a year before, on that exact day, I had photographed Isla's mommy and daddy for their maternity session and then four days later Isla made her entrance into our world. How cool is that??!!!! We had a FABULOUS evening, Isla was in a great mood, the weather was perfect, the light was killer and we all had our "A" game going. Here is their HUGE preview.. So... we have had this session scheduled since last fall. It was one of my sessions that suffered due to the rain and cold we had early in the fall.. so we rescheduled for Sunday and we were blessed with amazing weather! When we met and got out, Dylan said to me "I think you know my husband", he got out and um... well let's just say that I babysat him when I was in HIGH SCHOOL! Yes, I felt old... very very old. That has been every bit of 20 years, wow... anyway, we had fun. Payton is such a cutie, but like all children, when she was done, she was done and that is fine, I did get some great shots while she was wanting to be photographed! I have known Nicole for quite a while. We worked together 7 years ago at a daycare... we became close and then she moved on me! When she came back, I was so excited... we worked together when she had her oldest daughter, so I was super excited to see her again and see how much she had grown, matured and become a sweet young lady. To say that I love these girls is an understatement. I have formed such a bond with a few of my families and they have come to mean so much to me... These girls are no exception at.all. We had fun, we went to the girls' aunt's house which used to be their mom and aunt's grandma's house, so a lot of memories had been made at this place. I am so happy I was able to be there to capture them for these girls. Here is their preview. ;)

I think this is my favorite, I love how sweet they are toward one another. I know that they may not always be, but at least they tried for me. :)

I have been a stickler with my scheduling this year, trying not to spread myself too thin as I blinked one day and realized that time had passed and my children had grown a full year that I could not remember... and with an impending move, I just felt the need to give myself some time. So I was on the computer on Saturday morning when Becca messaged me, she told me that she knew it was last minute, but could I please snap a few family shots for her after church on the following day. Without going into too much detail, of course I had to do it. I felt compelled to do something, anything to help them. And because I can't do much, this was my gift to them...

I can not stress to you how important it is to have a photograph of you and your kids with you. I know we all probably have photographs of our children at home, even if it's just a school photo, but those photos with mom and dad in them as well are the photos that your children will appreciate one day. I know that I made a plea not long ago about being in photos more with my children, that I looked around one day to see that I was in maybe one photo here and there and I haven't done very well, I do better now with my phone, it's easier and it's still a photo that they can look back on and treasure. So please, sometime this year I urge you to have a family photo taken, it doesn't even have to be by a professional...just do it. I think you will thank yourself one day and so will your kids.

Rachel contacted me back in the early fall to schedule her senior session, paid her fee and we were set... then she broke her leg. :( So a reschedule it was... on the date of her session it rained... it seemed as if we just could not get it together. So I decided that we could split it up into two morning sessions which worked out great. Both mornings we got lucky with beautiful light and great temperatures. It is no lie that I photograph more senior girls than boys.. which is fine. But when I get a boy to photograph that is as cool and awesome as Kegan was, I get SO excited! We had in common the fact that we love different and an artisitc flare to photos. He was open for anything and that basically gave me full reign to go crazy with my editing skills.. which is where I truly turn a photo into my work...I used several textures in this session from the fabulous Jessica Drossin...I have to give her that credit because they always make such a dramatic difference to my pics. I have known Jordan's mom since high school. We weren't close in school, but in our adult years have become good friends. We have similar ideals, our hearts are in the same place on a lot of things. Buffy met Jordan's dad while in the peace corps (correct me if I'm wrong Buffy) and of course, they had Jordan. Now, onto a new journey, Buffy has taken a teaching job in Papau New Guinea....so they will be leaving soon. I'm excited and happy for them. I had the honor of being part of this wedding almost a year ago and now they are expecting their first child...

I sat here one day looking at the photos hanging on my wall, I have so many of my favorites blown up, they are only of my kids. Then I started going through files on my computer and all they held were my children and maybe a few with my husband. It made me sad, I mean, don't get me wrong, I am the photographer, I love to take photos and I usually know when I want to take the pic, but to think that if anything would ever happen to me and the kids would not have hardly any pics of me with them made me really sad. So I am adding one more resolution to my list for 2012, take more pics with my children, with ME in them. It's not hard, I have my phone on me all the time and it is my point and shoot these days... and it works, it is there for me to keep record. So here is what I have so far, a few go back to last year, but I love them and wanted to include them. If you are like me, even if you aren't a photographer, I know that I don't have a lot of photos from when I was little with me and my mom, I urge you to photograph yourself with your kids. They will thank you for it one day. <3

I have photographed this family for two years now. They have three beautiful girls...who are the sweetest, most polite little ones you have every been around. I am booking seniors on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and my regular sessions on Saturdays and Sundays this year. I have minimal days in April, May all I have left are Sundays (with the exception of the days open for seniors) June is still pretty open and I'll take sessions until June 17th...

52 Week Project

So, I'm always so ambitious on January 1st and then quickly fall off of the wagon. This year, I am going to follow through.... but it will be a bit easier than my project last year.

Last year I had big ideas, 365 photos, a photo a day. Well I made it maybe a month and then quickly fell off... this year, I am following along with a fellow photographer's group, over at My 4 Hens, we are doing 52 week photo project. One photo per week for a year. I think I can do this! She gives us a theme every week and I'm very excited.

A New Year and new things to come

Well Christmas came and went in the blink of an eye. The whole build up is always so much more than the actual day for me. I love to whole month of December, the Christmas shows on television, going holiday places, doing holiday themed things and then the day of... BLAH. After all of the presents are unwrapped, Santa has visited and the dinner has been eaten, I am left with a whole lot of let down. It is no one's fault but my own... it is how I feel every year after Christmas. I always do look forward to New Year's Eve and ringing in the New Year. This year I am actually going to go out with my wonderful husband and celebrate and ring in the new year together. The new year brings about some exciting new changes for us... hopefully a change of location, new school and friends for my children as well as a change of scenery for us. It is exciting and scary all the same.

The new year will also bring forth some changes for me business wise... I am not going to accept any "new" clients this spring unless you are a senior. I have really enjoyed this month off, being a mother, a much better mother than when I am swamped, I want to focus on my health and the health of my children as we had a little of a scare with the girls. Nothing serious, just something that, when you are busy, you eat out, throw junk in your body and then are left with health issues and pudge. No more... we are going to start eating cleaner, excercising more and living life happier. I will take appointment for sessions from current clients and any senior for 2012 or if you are a junior now, senior for 2013 and want me to do your senior pics before I leave, I will also accept you and that is it. I want to focus on my family and redirecting our lives to the new region. I'm excited to start my business in a new place. I'm excited for many changes in 2012.

I hope that you will continue to follow my blog, it will still be a place for client session peeks, but much more as well. I like a place where I can speak my mind with no fear of people getting angry at my views or commenting and not even understanding my view, I have had a few of those lately. :\ Either way, please stay with me and here is to a Happy New Year full of good things, happy moments, positve outlook and a happy heatlhy life.

Courtney & Aaron get married {Missouri Wedding Photographer}

I have been photographing for Courtney and Aaron for 2 years now... they finally decided to tie the knot *wink wink* and did so in Mexico the weekend after Thanksgiving... (lucky ducks).. they planned a reception for the weekend after they returned and asked me to share in their celebration. Of course I said yes! We ventured out early to take some husband/wife photos. We could not have been more lucky with the weather, it was December 4th and the temp was 65*. The sun wasn't shining, but that's ok...we were not going to argue. I am so happy for them, they make a beautiful couple and I do believe will live a long and happy life together and raise a beautiful family. Congrats again!

When the music started, Aaron's brother sat down at the table next to where I was sitting and told me to wait until his grandpa got out on the dance floor. He said "he can cut a rug" ;) Well it wasn't long and the DJ played a special song for Aaron's grandma and grandpa and holy moly could they ever dance! I didn't want the song to end, I could have watched them dance all night long. What I captured with my camera does not do their dancing justice. ;) I hope that they never stop dancing!

If you know me even a little bit you know that I am a very emotional, dramatic, wear my heart on my sleeve type of girl. I get emotional about my clients, especially those who mean as much to me as these three. Without going into too much detail and risking invading Shelley's privacy, just trust me when I say that she is such an inspiration to me. I will never forget when I did their first session two Christmas's ago, it was the first time I met Shelley and her girls and I was a little nervous... wasn't sure what to say, (and again, if you know Shelley you would understand what I mean) but it was as if we were old friends and by the end of the session I knew that she had been brought into my life for more than just photography reasons. When I am around Shelley and her beautiful girls, I come away a better person simply just from being around her. She is such a sweet person, you couldn't ask for a nicer, kinder, more gentle human being. And if anyone ever had anything bad to say about her I think I would shoot them down before it came out of their mouth because it simply is not true. She is an amazing mother, I know that there are days when it's all I can do to handle my three, I love them with all of my heart, but at the end of the day, after the endless chatter and the wild antics I am spent, and there are two of me (basically) but Shelley does this all on her own every day. Does she ever get frustrated, I am sure... but everytime I am around her and her girls she is patient with them, and kind and like a mother should be, as if the sun truly does rise and set with these two.

One of my absolute favorite clients, a beautiful person and friend. I'm sure that she will not like all of this attention, but as I sit here and think that this may be one of our last sessions it made me want to let her know that I have been honored to be able to photograph her beautiful family for these past 2 years and I want her to know that she has left a very big impact on my life and my heart. And enjoy your preview Layton girls.

Day 2; My home made advent calendar. :) I had one as a child, it was always my favorite part about Christmas. I would receive a small gift in the little pockets every day counting down to Christmas morning. Well I have looked high and low for one and finally, with the help of Pinterest, decided to make my own. Mine are activities every day to do as a family. Tonight, day 2 we are having hot cocoa and family "game" night, which we never get to do. The kids are very excited. A few more acitivities included are driving around to the Christmas light displays, baking Christmas cookies and making a gingerbread house to name a few.

25 Days of Christmas in photos

Well, it's that time of year again... and my winter break officially starts Sunday, December 4th around noon. To say I am looking forward to a break is an understatement. I love what I do, but I am always ready to slow down and take time to enjoy my family, especially this time of the year.

But, I know I will get bored and want to take some pics, so I have to give myself a project. This month is 25 Days of Christmas... one photo a day through the Holiday season.

Another Fabulous Family session {Missouri Family Photographer}

Another fabulous family session in downtown Farmington. I really love to find new little nooks around town to use, I especially love the old brick buildings that we all take for granted. We met on Friday, it was windy...and a bit chilly, but we got it done and I think they turned out pretty darn swell. :) Here is a preview! When my friend told me she was expecting, I not only was thrilled because they were adding another blessing into their already beautiful family, but I was excited because I knew I would be able to photograph him/her! And finally I got to meet him last Sunday. He is such a cutie, makes me remember when mine were little, all of the things you swear you will not forget, but you do, because life gets crazy. Baby "C" didn't want much to do with laying down for pics, but I did get a lot of him and his big sister...hopefully at his 6 month session he will be sitting up and give me some smiles! ;)

Some of my absolutely favorite people...they are so much more than clients, we have become fast friends. I first photographed Krissi's Greta and then her sister Torri came to me...Missi then got pregnant and I now have the absolute honor of being the photographer for all three of these girls and their beautiful families. We always have SO much fun at sessions. These girls go on my list of clients that will truly truly be missed when we move. I have enjoyed watching their families grow and capturing moments for them.

I am so thankful that they are not "posey" people because at this session, there was very little posing. Too many kiddos running around, too many things to see and two little kittens to chase. :) Here is a peek into their session. I love you girls!

Just a little policy update; I usually email to confirm a few days ahead of your session, I try to do at least 2 days before...confirm time and meeting place. I don't always hear back from everyone until the night before, while I understand that not everyone checks their email as frequently as me, I must put this in place. From now on, if I have not had a definite email or text back regarding your session, by 5pm the day before your session, I will mark it off of my calendar and will consider it cancelled. This is purely because I usually have to have my day planned out and right now, I'm trying to double up on sessions to get you all in before the weather gets bad. Thanks for understanding and thank you all again for a great fall season!

Oh this session, we worked so hard to schedule it and get it finished. We were first scheduled for early summer and it got SO hot, we rescheduled for fall, it rained, it was windy, if it wasn't one thing it was another...FINALLY last Saturday we had a perfect fall day. There was hardly a breeze, beautiful sunshine and decent temps. I know this family from the dance studio that my girls attend. They are beautiful inside and out. I enjoyed taking their photos and I hope they will treasure them for a long time. Enjoy!

I love this family. One of my very first "clients" and very good friends. I have watched Brody grow up and this family (along with a few others) are the ones that pull at my heart when I think about moving. But I know that they understand and hopefully will either come and see me or wait to have pics until I come back to Missouri. We had fun at their session, even though Brody was not having anything to do with me as long as I had my camera up. ;)

I have known Krista (the bride) for a long time...we worked together years ago and I went to school with her brother. She is such a sweet girl and when we reconnected and she asked me to photograph her wedding, how could I say no. The day was beautiful, could not have asked for more perfect October weather, sunny and warm, a bit breezy, but the ceremony came off without a hitch. We had amazing light after to do their first photos as husband and wife and I think a good time was had by all. I have been waiting for them to return from their honeymoon (2 weeks in the Dominican Repulic) before I posted anything. So here is your sneak peek Krista and Chris. When we arrived to the location that this family chose there were signs up that said "Private Property...camera in use" :| so needless to say we did not stay. It's a shame too, it is a cool local spot. But....I'm sort of glad we didn't, had we stayed there I would not have captured the sun that blessed us with it's pressence on this evening. I have known Donica (mom) for quite some time. We went to cosmetology school together 11 years ago. Yes, I tried to do hair at one point, HATED IT....but we used to have so much fun together at school. We reconnected one day a few years back in Target and I gave her my business card, then we found each other on FB last fall. She entered my family session give away last spring and won! I'm so glad she did. This family is beyond gorgeous, these two kids of hers are the cutest and her son, well I'll let the photos speak for themselves, trust me, he will be a lady killer one day. I love this shot, I was trying to get her to give me a serious face, then I realized that she is probably not a serious child, so I wanted to capture a "real" smile...you know, not the "say cheese" smile, so I told her "not to smile" and then it starting peeking out before giggles ensued!

I've been photographing big brother for a year now. He is the sweetest thing EVER and has quickly warmed to me and now, at every session we have fun. This session was rained out too many times to count. The morning we rescheduled for was to be our first frost of the year....so I was concerned about dealing with the temps (because of the littlest cutie) and the ground being wet and or cold. Mom said "let's just do it" and we got lucky and had pretty decent temps and not horribly wet ground. What cuties both of these little ones are...and mom and dad wanted a few pics alone, always SO happy to do that. I know, even as a photographer, I rarely have my pic taken with my hubby alone. Leigh and Erik are getting married {Missouri Engagement Photographer}

Leigh contacted me a while back to shoot their wedding which is planned for May. I was very excited and when we discussed their engagement session, well I was even more excited. The day we met to do their e session I got out of the car, we discussed details and then were to go to the location. I got back in my car, put it in reverse and backed right into a cement light pole at Hardees where we met. :| not a good way to meet, but it did not affect my mojo! We had so much fun and I think I got some great shots. They are so much fun to be around and are so much in love. Here is how they met in Leigh's words.

Erik and I were set up by our mutual friend, Lilli, two weeks after graduating college. Lilli went to church and high school with Erik back home in Wisconsin, and she was my best friend all 4 years of college. He spent a year of college in WI, then transferred to Evangel University in Springfield, MO, our freshman year at College of the Ozarks in Branson, MO. I met him for 5 minutes freshman year when he came to a basketball game at CofO to see Lilli. I thought he was cute, so I added him on Facebook, but he had a girlfriend. I remember thinking, "Darnit, they always do!" We never spoke again for 4 years. We were at Evangel a couple times for basketball games, and he would text Lilli and ask her to come hang out with him, but she never did. Right after college graduation, she was talking to him and asked him how his dating life was going. He said he'd gone on a couple dates, but he found out the girl was kind of a partier, and he didn't really care for that. She said he should meet her best friend, that we'd be perfect together. She texted me and said, "If I got you a date, would you go?" I said, "Ooo, maybe! With whom??" She told me and I said, "Oo, he's cute! Yes!" He came to my house in Branson one Sunday and we watched the Cards/Cubs game (Cards whopped 'em!). And that was that! It was so crazy that she never set us up during college, but I know the timing was perfect, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

She is a Cardinal fan (woo woo) and he is a Cubs fan...we had to do something with that!

I have known Jaden since she was my son's age...so when her mom called me to do her senior pics I was thrilled! And mom did not dissapoint on having her with the cutest outfits and accessories. If ever I get in a rut, all I need to do is go and find me a beautiful high school senior girl to photograph...it seriously pulls me out of my funk. I have a little bit more artistic freedom when I shoot with a senior and a little bit more artistic freedom editing wise....not to mention that they just freaking rock. ;) Haley's session was rained out the week before but I think it paid off to have to reschedule, we had an absolutely BEAUTIFUL day on Saturday and well, she rocked it. Brian and Jen are getting married {Missouri Engagement Photographer}

I seriously could have blogged this whole session. Jen came to me as a referral from an awesome client of mine and I'm so glad she referred Jen and Brian to me. They are my kind of people, don't take life too seriously, like to have fun and can totally laugh at themselves. We had a great time during our shoot. They are planning a wedding in Cancun on 11-11-11 (how cool is that) and I wish them all of the best luck for their future lives together. They deserve the best. Here is how "the story of us" told in Brian's words. (I edited it a little...;))

"We actually knew each other in high school. She was two years younger than me, so we didn't hang out or talk to each other really. We were re-acquainted one night when SHE picked ME up in a bar (Hub's Pub, in Bonne Terre). I was minding my own business,had just got off a float trip and she came up to me. We have talked everyday ever since.

I'm not the kind of person to do something real flashy, and I wanted it to just be her and I because I wanted it to be OUR moment, not other peoples. So I went a got her ring, (which actually I am proud to say I designed myself) and when I got home I couldn't not give it to her. I didn't do the whole "down on one knee" thing, I just asked her. We kept it quiet til the next evening because I wanted to talk to her dad first, which is was very excited when I told him. Jennifer is one of the most considerate persons I have ever met in my life, and that is one quality I immediately fell in love with. She has an AMAZING family, and I cannot wait to spend many happy years with her as my beautiful little bride."

Yep, that last little part is my favorite part....so sweet. Congrats again and here are all of my favorites from their session.

We got lucky with this, Jen noticed it when we pulled into our second location and, well it was an "E and a J" and I doctored it a bit....had to take advantage of it.

One of my favorites, something about it I just love.

I love how I caught them giggling and this was a total outtake, I was trying to move them into a pose and well, I think it works. :D

I met with this beautiful family last Monday...we had beautiful weather, perfect light and beautiful subjects...all of the elements for a great session! Here are some of my absolute favorites. :)

Love this one, I love to capture moments that are not posed and are so so special.

I think this is my favorite, children are so honest and real at this age. I usually don't get the cheesey smiles, I get true emotional looks...and usually they are thinking, why are you standing there, making faces with that camera to your face. ;)

I have had my fair share of 1 year olds lately...but that is fine. They are so much fun, usually give me great smiles and giggles! Max's mom booked this session months ago and we have been chatting via email since then. We figured out quickly that we have lots in common and pretty much formed an instant friendship. I think that is what I love so much about my job, I am able to form these relationships and usually they are lasting. Up until Max, I had not photographed any little boys around his age in a long time, I had forgotten how BUSY they are. :) We just let Max do his thing and I think I captured him pretty well. Willa and Gus are cousins and were born very close together....not sure how close, within days. So when I went up to meet Willa and photograph her I also did Gus's photos. See why these families mean so much to me. I love them like family. Usually Greta, Willa's older sis, doesn't want me to photograph her, but on this day, she conjured up her inner model. She was on FIRE.....posing me for and every time I put my camera up she was there. So I got a lot of good ones of both and was able to use a trick I learned from the fabulous Bobbi and Mike, it worked like a charm...see adorable mommy and child photo below.

I attended the 2011 Shot Party in St Louis last night. Kelly Manno was the host and is the coordinator. We had a great time, got to listen to Becker, an amazing wedding photog from Orange County CA. And the highlight of my night was listening and meeting Bobbi and Mike. If you don't know their work, you seriously need to look them up. They are based out of Indianapolis and their style, their energy, everything is genuine and contagious. They were exactly as I thought they would be. Bobbi is a firecracker for sure, caring, compassionate about each other, their work and their clients...and I will have them do our family photos next spring. I am more determined than EVER now. Amazing people. First pic below, myself and my two photog friends with Bobbi and Mike. Second, photo booth pic from the party, we had a blast!

I had a drawing back in January for a free family session. The criteria, the family had to be trendy, cool and fabulous! Jennifer Guffey and her family were drawn and they are definitely fabulous. I found some super cool urban spots and on Sunday, in the heat, we set out to make it happen. The kids did great despite the heat, I was really impressed. My own kids would have been whining the whole time. :) Here is a peek in to their session. Definitely a family session that ranks up there as one of my favorites of all time.

I finally got to photograph this beautiful couple's engagement session. We had been canceled three times because of rain. Well it tried to scare us on this day, but we got lucky when the sun made an appearance. And I also was able to photograph their little one, who is a complete and utter doll. They are planning a wedding in Mexico in November and a reception in December in Missouri. Congratulations you two love birds.

Back from vacation, I finally have most of our photos edited and wanted to share! We had such a great time. My husband and I thought it would be relaxing, well it was, compared to a Disney vacation, but we still fell in bed in exhaustion every night...the ocean wore us out. Dauphin Island is such a neat little place. It was great for us because it was not crowded, not a bunch of "kids" partying, etc. We basically had our part of the beach to ourselves. We had to drive in to get groceries and a few times to eat dinner. There is a wonderful bakery on the island with the nicest people who remembered us every time, especially the girls, who they affectionately nick named "The Double Mint Twins" ;) Of course the girls had no idea what that meant, so I had to explain. We visited the Estuarium, which was cool. The kids were able to see jellyfish and star fish, turtles, etc. We went and toured an old civil war fort, Ft Gaines which is right there on the island. That was boring to them, all I could see was cool shooting locations and hubby was enthralled in the history. We took a boat ride out to the old lighthouse, saw all of the amazing homes on Dauphin Island, cruised around the lighthouse and then on the way back, the ship mates dropped the nets and whatever they pulled in, they put in the middle in a trough, pulled out anything dangerous and then the kids were free to pick up and touch, etc. YUCK! but it was very cool, they caught a bunch of shrimp, a couple of squid, a flounder (which is the flat fish with both eyes on one side) and countless other fish. And we just took our time and enjoyed the beach, the sand and the ocean. By Friday, our last full day, we were all weepy, we did not want to leave and I am totally not joking when I say that we are looking to relocate somewhere along the gulf coast. I felt so comfortable there, comfortable shooting (the first set of pics are the ones I did with my kiddos on the beach) our allergies went away for that entire week, a lot of things that we suffer from here in MO went completely away there that week. The breeze the whole week was amazing, kept it from being too hot and don't get me started on the low humidity and the sheer beauty of the sunsets. So here is a quick peek in to our vacation, I have more and may post more later on.....vacation let down was much harder this year and I am still dealing with it. It is always bittersweet to go on vacation and then have to come home, it means that summer is more than half way over and well, when you are really not happy with your "home" base, it is even harder. But we will muster through for now....and maybe in the next year or so you will see a "relocation" post from me. :)

A break for us

I love summer. Long days...fireflies....popcicles and ice cream....sprinklers and swimming..no schedule (if you don't want one) it is my time of the year. Can not forget the essential part that I love, vacation! We are leaving tomorrow morning for Dauphin Island in Alabama. It is down below Mobile, in the gulf. We rented a house on the beach and plan on enjoying each other's company, playing on the beach, maybe some board games, searching for shells, eating some serious sea food and just relaxing. I hope to bring back many photos....because of course I have a shoot "scheduled" with my own children on the beach! I will return on the 18th to answer emails and phone calls. I am still booking seniors..if you want an August, September, October or November appointment, fill out the contact form and I'll get you booked. I want to get as many as I had last year and then double it! So that means at the very minimum 100! So au revoir.....ciao....and adios! See you in a week!!!!!

I was contacted by this family a year ago, through what used to be the Little Hero organization. It is compiled of a group of photographers who donate their time and talent to families of children with special needs or illnesses to give them a free photo shoot and then either prints or the digital files after. It is a wonderful organization and it is now know as "Inspiration through Art" still has the same goal in mind, just different name. We couldn't get together on a date last summer, fall came and I got so busy I couldn't think straight. Finally on June 25th I was able to meet them and photograph their son Aaron for them. I met them at a gas station to follow them to the park we were going to shoot, they pulled up and I rolled down my window and this little guy in the back waved to me, I knew then that he would hold a special place in my heart. He was so happy the entire time, despite his problems. He can not walk like you and I, he can not speak and has a tracheotomy, but still he gave me giggles and smiles almost up until the very end. Here is Aaron's story from his mom and dad.

This is our son Aaron. He is 11 years old and he's the most heroic person we know. Aaron has been diagnosed with Beals Syndrome. Beals Syndrome is an extremely rare genetic disorder that causes one to have contractures of knees, elbows and fingers, have a curved spine, facial abnormalities and misshapened ears. Aarons breathing difficulties were brought on by another condition that as of yet, has not been diagnosed. Aaron in non-verbal, but despite this, he has no trouble making friends and making his needs and wants known. He also has a smile that will melt your heart and knows how to use it to his advantage!!! After 5 major surgeries, we are continually amazed by him and his ability to take things as they come and not let things slow him down. He knows no fear.

I admire them so much, it is hard enough to be a parent, but to also be a parent and face challenges such as these, well they are heroes in my eyes. So here is a peek into my session with Aaron, who touched my heart and will hold a special place there for a long time.

I had a morning session with Landon and his family on Friday. Usually morning sessions, to me, are harder, you are working against the light instead of it working with you, the sun is coming up and getting stronger, etc. but on this morning I didn't struggle. I either have my morning mojo now or it was not full sun. Either way we had a great session and what a cutie this little guy is. 3 months is such a hard age to photograph, to me. While they are making great eye contact and have smiles now, they aren't doing much else. They can't sit up or push up while on their belly, usually. So that is why that it is always great when mom and dad will be in the 3 month session, more variety and maybe more smiles. We hurried to get this session in on Friday evening and made it, as soon as I snapped my last shot because the wind was blowing like mad, one single rain drop landed on my camera. Thank goodness we were finished because not long after the sky opened up and it rained and rained (like we needed more rain) Claire was so funny, she usually takes a little bit to warm to me, but not on Friday, she came right to me and we started having fun. Her little brother Luke also didn't dissapoint with his grins. :)

Had a double session last Saturday with brothers and their families. It was a rainy day but we persisted and beat the rain. Here is a peek in to their session and these two adorable little souls.

My son came home from "grammy's house" on Sunday, he is 5 and will start kindergarten next year. He came up to me and showed me his loose tooth. I felt as though I had been punched in the stomach. I know this may sound silly to some, but he is my baby, the last one and to lose that first baby tooth is such a right of passage. I mean, this is it. My children are growing before my eyes. I get so busy with work, with life, that I/we don't take the time to slow down and just enjoy our kids. So in that moment, I knew that I had to set some time aside this week to photograph my children, document his baby teeth while he still has them, document my twins, who will be 10 this June. Time slips away, don't let it, grab on and slow down....enjoy every minute for it is precious.

Some of my favorite shots of my son are bath tub photos. I have one framed and big in my bathroom from our old house, we had a big deep claw foot tub, one of my favorite all time shots! This is such an excellent way of putting it. Thank you Erin Farrell of Erin Farrell Photography for writing these words so perfectly.

Imagine that you’re baking dessert for a party. It’s your special recipe: the one everyone asks for. You make it from scratch, of course, never looking at the recipe that you committed to memory so long ago. Sugar, beaten eggs, sift in the flour… you’re crafting something delicious from basic elements. Now you’re at the party and everyone is gushing about your dessert. The flavor! The texture! But most of all you’re being asked, “what kind of oven do you have? It makes great cakes!”

That’s pretty much how a photographer feels when people look at their photos and say, “your camera takes great pictures.”

Of course it’s not the camera that takes great photos, any more than it’s the oven that makes a great dessert. Ovens and cameras are just tools that make our jobs easier. Yes, better equipment does make a difference. I wouldn’t spend thousands of dollars on cameras and lenses if it didn’t. However, you must understand the camera to take advantage of all it can offer. Just because you’re using a professional camera does not mean you are producing professional images.

It’s all about what you know: the technicalities of photography. You have to determine just the right type and direction of light, position your models to take advantage of that light and create a pleasing composition, utilize the correct camera settings (aperture, ISO, etc.) and work with your models to make them feel comfortable. And that’s just the first half! After the photo shoot there is still post-processing to be done.

Seniors 2011, I am going to be doing some price restructering. With that said, prices will remain the same as they are now until May 1, 2011. As a mother, you want to protect your child, keep them from harm. But then they go to school and you can not be there to protect them. You try to teach them to be kind to others, treat others as you want to be treated, at least that is what I taught my kids, didn't you? Well I am learning that other parents have NOT taught their kids these things. Not at all, they have taught hate, and intolerance, if you look different you are not accepted, if you love someone that is not "normal" then you are not accepted (whatever normal is), if you stand up and don't let others walk on you then you will be told to "shut your big fat mouth" and you are supposed to just cower, tuck your tail between your legs and go on, because your mother taught you to be nice. Well, I am SICK and tired of my children being walked on. I realized though, that the way I have gone about handling this is not the right way. First I wanted to tell my girls to call them names back, be mean back and let them know how it feels, then I decided that is not the way to handle it. I do not want my children being thought of as mean, spiteful, hateful little girls, like the ones that were just recently mean to my girls. I want to make a movement, I want my voice to be heard...will it make the schools take notice, maybe for a little bit, but will it make those that were bullied feel good, ABSOLUTELY and that is my plan. So, know that I have something in the works.....something up my sleeve and it will be FABULOUS! I will need help, but as soon as I iron out the details I will let everyone know on here and on FB and ask for help. It is a photo project, bullies need not apply, you will not be accepted and I know who you are! This started out small, but is slowly growing and has the capacity to grow to enourmous proportions, or so I hope! So stay tuned.....because hell hath no fury like a mother whose children have been scorned!

I have been so fortunate to upgrade as many times as I have over the course of 4 years. Upgrade my equipment that is. I took it step by step....from my trusty Rebel to my 40D, then last year I upgraded to my beloved 50D. This January, I finally took the biggest leap and purchased the camera I have been coveting ever since I started. The 5d mark ii. And no, it is not always the equipment that makes the photographer, not at all....you must know how to compose a photo correctly first. But just like a chef covets fine pots and pans, I have drooled over this baby for a long time. I'm so happy to finally have "him" in my hands...and my photography will not change and to the untrained eye probably won't see a difference, I will be able to tell and that is all that matters. 2011 is shaping up to be a fabulous year!

I know it's only January, but I'm going to start my senior rep search for 2012 early, give my reps more time to pass out those rep cards. So if you are interested, here is the scoop;

I want at least one girl and one boy senior from one of the local area schools combined. If I don't have any boys contact me withing a reasonable amount of time, I will accept an extra girl. You MUST be a senior for the next school year, you will have your session fee waived. If the senior and her parents are willing, I would love to pick the location and it won't be around here, I'm thinking one of the cool parks in St Louis, maybe an urban area up there as well. If that isn't possible for the senior, we can totally do something fun down here, but it will include an urban session as well as a "country" session. Country sessions mean field, trees, grass, railroad tracks, urban is downtown, buildings, bricks, grunge, etc.

I am caught up...I have two sessions this Sunday and then I hang up my camera strap in the client/photographer sense for a month. To say that I'm not excited would be a lie. I love my job, am so grateful that I have the ability to do what I love and make a little with it. But I took on way too much this fall and it is time for some slowing down.

I am participating in a project this month called "Picture the Holidays" each day I recieve an "photo assignment" in my in box to complete for the day. I plan on posting it here as well as on FB.

Thank you to those who I had the absolute honor of photographing this past year. I enjoyed capturing your memories for you. To those who didn't get to me in time to secure an appointment, I hope that you will come back in the spring or fall so that I can work with you.

Here's to a fabulous 2010 and an even better 2011

As most of you know, I am not a studio photographer. I don't like the cheesy backdrops, the usual props, the fake Christmas tree for Christmas pics...but doing Christmas pics Alexanders style is so much different. There is still the traditional tree, add in a client that brings very cool, big ornaments, add in the brick, the wood floors and you get a cool studio session Christmas style.

I have said it a million times, but I will say it again. I have the best clients in the world. I was contacted by one of these mom's last summer for miss Greta's one year pics. Then one of her sisters contacted me to do her daughter's pics. The next thing I know, both of those sisters are pregnant and then their other sister is pregnant. Now I have the luxury of being the photographer for all of these girls and their gorgeous kiddos. I did a 3 month shoot for Willa and Gus last week at Alexanders. An amazing room with amazing light with some amazing people. Enjoy.

When I take on the "First Year" baby packages, some may think I do it just to ensure I will get my client to come back, afterall, they have already paid in advance. But it is more to me, I have the opportunity to watch that child change and grow and document it for their family. This little guy, I have been photographing for a year now and this is his birthday session. It has been a fast year, he has changed so much, one thing hasn't changed, he still gives me somber looks, but that is ok....I love his somber faces. :) Happy Birthday Ian!

My second family session on Sunday was an eventful one to say the least. While scoping out a spot to do their family shots in, I found the perfect one, or so I thought... got the family there, and then out of no where come yellow jackets, a lot of yellow jackets. The dad was stung on the forehead, we moved as to hopefully avoid the kids being stung. I was stung on the ear and then on the arm. But the session continued, the show must go on, right? :) So even after a hornet attack, I still think we had a good session. Such a beautiful family... and look at the eye lashes on that little guy, wouldn't you die for them? Here are many of my favs from this session.

Some changes for 2011

Because I have overworked myself this fall, I am going to make some changes for 2011. I will only accept a few appointments a month to ensure that you receive the best photos from your session. Therefore I am already booking for January and booking quickly. The session fee will be due before your appointment is booked to hold the date and is going to be non refundable. When you contact me about a certain date, I will send you the client information and contract, this will explain how much the session fee is (my rates are going to go up in January) and other questions you may have. We will then discuss what you are wanting out of a session. I am no longer going to accept large groups, my style is very much candid, lifestyle photography, I don't pose you, nor do I like posed photos. A lot of my shots usually one or more of the subjects are not looking at the camera. If this is something that you don't think you want, I can refer you to a photographer that I know and whose work I respect that can help you with what you are wanting. My editing style is unique to me, therefore I do not venture away from it ever. You can look on my website and get a feel for my style, how I work and edit. You will find no selective coloring, no super imposing of objects, etc. Again, if this is something that you are wanting, I can refer you to a photographer that I know and respect to take care of your needs. Thanks to those I had the opportunity to photograph this year, and to those who I still have to photograph. I enjoy working with each and every one of you.

To say I love this family would be an understatement. Yes I love all of my clients, new and old, but there are some that are so so special to me. Especially those who have been with me from the very beginning, this is one of those families. I have watched Brody grow and change and hope to be able to for years to come. We did their family session and then mom and dad decided to have some taken by themselves. Well Brody was going to have none of that! He decided he was going to be in those as well!

So lucky to have amazing clients. This family I have been photographing for over a year. Documenting Tessa's life as she grows, now she is a big sis and I have the opportunity to document Ava's life as well. Beautiful people...

We started at Ride On St Louis in Kimmswick, which is an amazing place. Gorgeous grounds, horses, the river right there. Then went to a near by bridge in Kimmswick. Tears were shed, as you will see, but then we got happy again. :) Here are my picks from this session.

Well, in terms of working to get together, this session wins the award for most reschedules. :) We were first scheduled in August, one of those 100 weeks, we rescheduled. The next date was still a little hot. The next rescheduled date we were rained out. Fourth try and we had gorgeous weather! I had so much fun with this family, Keiler is a senior at Parkway South in St Louis. I was honored to go that far to do a senior, I hope that he passes the word along and maybe this spring I will get some more come "south" to see me.

Muse - A source of inspiration. As an artist, we all need inspiration, it can come from many sources. I tend to pull mine from clients. Especially if I have taken their photos before, I might come up with an idea or see something I want to try and a particular client will come to mind. So, Liz and I scheduled our shoot for yesterday, I was looking forward to a sunny shoot, a lot of flare and some awesome back lighting and then the clouds rolled in. :| So I didn't get discouraged, I thought to myself, if I am worth anything as an artist I need to be able to take what is handed to me and work with it and I did. We didn't get sun, but we at least had a break in the rain and we were lucky enough to shoot at a time when the leaves are at their peak. I will be doing two seperate posts for this session because I know there will be many I want to show off. Here is round 1 of my session with my "muse" Liz.

I think I worked harder in this session than any I have in a while and only because the first time we met to do the session, I had left my battery to my camera at home, 70 miles south. EEK... so we set a different date, on my way to meet Jack and Ava that day I took the wrong exit, had to find my way from a different one, there was a huge political function where we planned to do their session....After the session, which went well, I couldn't find my car keys. Needless to say after that afternoon I was exhausted and only because of all of my problems. Cutie patooties they are. Here are some of my favs.

Greta's mom and I met at Forest Park to do a session with little miss G for her two year pics. She is such a cutie, gorgeous eyes. Even though she was a little unsure of me in the beginning, she quickly warmed up and then chattered the whole time. Here are some of my favorites.

My cousin gave birth to her beautiful daughter, Melody on June 3. There were some complications and she was then taken to Children's. She is doing great now, but how scary. Makes you realize how precious life is and how much we take for granted. She is a beautiful baby girl... and I can see the love that her mom and dad have for her. I had the absolute honor of photographing an old friend on Saturday. We graduated together and had not seen each other since then, I will not divulge how long that was, but trust me it was a long time ago. :) She is an identical twin, so after our session I was able to pick her brain a bit on the dynamics of having someone who looks JUST like you and that is around all.the.time. She is just as wonderful as she was in high school and her daughter is shaping up to be just like her mom, a beautiful spirit.

Well in my eyes, all of my client's posts should be titled this title, but I felt like using it on this one today. All of my clients are beautiful and I love being able to capture that for them.

This little guy was full of energy, he wanted to explore the whole time.. which is understandable.. I want my clients to know that I am used to children not cooperating (LOL) I have three of my own, it is so not a big deal, that is why I shoot candid shots the majority of the time and if I get a good face shot with a smile out of a one or two year old.. bonus for me. :) Enjoy.

I had the absolute pleasure of photographing this family last fall, we had a fun session and clicked "artistically" that is always so important, if the family or client doesn't get my style then you will not like your photos. Their son, at that time, was very ill, he had biliary atresia, and I do not know that much about it, but I do know that this Spring he became very ill and went on to the Liver Donor's list in hopes of finding a new liver. His mom contacted The Little Hero Project, www.littlestheroesproject.org, an charity organization of photographers that donate their time to families of sick children, the family receives a free photo session for their Little Hero. She asked for me to be their photographer.

Long story short, Jax received his new liver about a month ago (my timing could be wrong on that) he is doing fabulous and is a happy and healthy baby now. I went to their house this week to photograph him and his family. I am so blessed to know this family, their strength as a family is unwavering, the courage and endurance of Jax amazes me. A few days ago I mentioned a business venture that a client of mine was starting. These shots are a few sneak peeks from our "model" shoot on Friday for the website. She makes amazing bows... I can not wait for her to get her website set up and going. These were taken at Alexanders in Farmington located at the Factory. It is such an amazing room, I had TONS of natural light. That room makes me drool... ;)

So.... I am surrounded by such creative people, I am so thankful. I am thankful for those of you who come to me and are not "creatively inclined" it takes us all to make the world go around... but when I come across someone who is creative, in any way, it strikes a chord with me and makes me want to be more creative!

A client of mine is getting ready to launch a website to sell her beautiful bows that she makes. I am honored to be taking the photos for the site and helping with her logo. We are doing the photo shoot with the models on Friday and I can not wait to post a few teasers and then for her to launch her site! This is a huge leap, a big step and to find what you love to do, know that you are good at it and succeed at doing it, damn it feels good. I just know that this is going to be a huge success for her and that she is going to do FANTASTIC! So be ready, because as soon as she launches I will be posting a link to her site for all to see because I think I'm just as excited as she is.

Spring Special Announced!

The Spring special will start March 1st and run through May 31st. For every $50 you spend in prints, you will receive a free print of your choice in the following sizes (wallets, 4x6, 5x7 and 8x10). Spend $150 and don't take the free prints and you can have 10 high resolution images (of your choice) from your session on a CD with a print release for an additional $25.

Maternity Special

After having such a fabulous time with this last maternity session, I decided to run a special. Come to me for your maternity photos, after the little one is born, bring him or her back to me before they are out of the sleepy, curled up stage (no older than 14 days old) and receive half off of your session fee for the newborn session and 15% off of prints from the newborn session. Special will end August 31st 2010. :)

Well, we had some snow days last week and all the kids wanted to do was eat... and I baked, well I baked a bit, but I also wanted to do nothing but eat. OY!

So, July I only had one session, but it turned out to be the best connection EVER. She is probably blushing now as she reads this, I think that her and her sister are both very humble, caring people... but I was referred to this family from an earlier client. Krissi, then referred me to EVERYONE that she knew! She actually became my pr.... she sold me and I can not thank her enough for being such an awesome client and for referring me to everyone that she did. Her little one is a complete doll and Krissi and her husband are both wonderful! These favorites will take this whole post. ;)

The first is an engagement session of a wonderful long time friend of mine. Second was a session with three little cutie patooties. And the third session was a friend of mine from school, her little girl's birthday party. Talk about photogenic, this girl stole my heart, STUNNING!

It's been a wonderful year, as I look back I've gotten some wonderful new clients, made some awesome new "client" friends and have grown artistically and business wise. I've learned a lot, we are all just ducks in a row. So for the next few days or so I'm going to select some of my favorites from the sessions I've done all year long. I'm going to try to choose at least one favorite from each session (in months like October, November) when I had 20 sessions, it will just be a two day post.

A beautiful newborn session

This little guy was such a little doll... he was asleep when they arrived, well after he was disrobed and moved around a bit, he decided to wake up and stayed awake the entire time. :) But that's ok, I still got some nice photos of him for mom and dad to look back on one day and remember how tiny he once was.

Dear clients,

Thank you for an amazing fall season. To those of you who frequent me often, thank you for being loyal customers and awesome people. For those of you who are new and it was your first time with me, I thank you for the opportunity to capture your memories and hopefully provide some art for you to go along with it. I hope that you will return in the coming year.

There will be some changes coming, I've had a hard year, family wise and business wise, business wise it has been a lucrative season, but it has been a learning experience. I have learned a lot. I'm going to take this down time to reassess my pricing system, my policies and re do some things. Life is a learning experience and I take them with me as I move ahead in to 2010.

To those who I had to turn away because of scheduling, I apologize, but I am only one person and to be honest, had no idea I would book as I did this year, I'm thankful that I did, to be able to do what I love and do it for others fills me with joy.... but I had a waiting list and then at the end had to just say "no" and I do apologize. I do hope that you like my style enough to check back with me in the spring or book for a fall session early next year so that I can get you in.

The mix ups and flubs in orders has also been a HUGE learning experience for me, I will be putting a better ordering system in to place. Your slideshow will remain as it is when I present it to you in the beginning, to account for the numbering system that the website has on it. This is to keep me from ordering the wrong photos for you and to ensure that you do, indeed, receive the correct order. If there are photos that you do not want others to see, then do not give the password out to others, it is your password for a reason and that is why the galleries are password protected. The mix ups in ordering, I thank those of you who have been so gracious and kind and who understand that I not only have this job, I have the job of a mother, a maid, a chef, a taxi driver and also there are more than just you as a client. The busiest time when orders were placed seems to be when the biggest mishaps happened. I apologize, again know that you are not the only customer that I deal with and I order sizes in bulk. But I had many that were gracious and kind and understood and were just satisfied in the fact that it can be fixed and will be fixed and didn't belittle me with their words or try to. I thank you for this. Some of you know of the rough season my family has had and have kept us in your thoughts and prayers... this is in no way an excuse, but do know that when you have things going on as major as we did, it will weigh on your mind, and show in your performance. It may not have shown in my finished work, but it affected my organization, as it is not the best to begin with. ;) My only solace for the negative individuals that have come my way is that negative people bring negative things to their own lives, so think about that the next time you approach a situation with a negative attitude. You don't know what happened, you don't know what is going on in that person's life that day. Yes, it was a mistake, and that's why it is called a "mistake" it wasn't intentional and I'm not out to "get one over on you" anyone that knows me knows that I am more than accomodating.

As far as photo books are concerned, I made an announcement last night on Facebook that I was was not going to do them anymore, I was aggrivated and hurt that I've had two customers this season order them and were not satisfied.The dissatisfaction is not what bothered me, it was the way the individuals handled the situation. One was not willing to have the situation fixed and took other measures... the other that was dissatisfied hurt me with her words because I do put my heart and soul in to these books, I search for the perfect quote to fit the photo that I put in. I place them in there and the finished product fills me with joy. I don't just sit down and place photos in to an ordering system, throw the quotes in there and "voila" I'm finished. These books take me at least an hour to do AFTER I have found the quotes that I feel fit the photo. To say "it's just ok" well that was hurtful. Yes, I'm emotionally invested in my work, but I also know that there are always going to be critics and people that you can not please all of the time, and those that will not ever like what you do no matter how you try to reconcile the situation. Go to another photographer and see what they charge to do a hard bound photo book for the same quality and then come back and tell me that you aren't getting a fabulous product for what I'm charging. I will continue to do them next year, but maybe only for those that have had them done for them in the past, or for those that have seen one of "MINE" and do know what they are going to get.

So thank you loyal customers and thank you new customers. I hope to see you back in 2010.

As this year comes to an end, my family has had it's shares of ups and downs. We've had new friends come in to our lives, my business has taken off and we've also dealt with other trying issues that I will not discuss on here. But we have pulled through and will continue to do so. I so believe in the power of positive thoughts and positive energy. I believe that what you put out there, in to the universe, you get back. If it is negative, nasty, hateful and spiteful, then that is what you will get back. Think of it as karma, which I also firmly believe in and have seen it work it's wonders. This goes hand in hand with my customers. I have had the wonderful fortune this year of being totally booked the months of September, October and November. Most of these clients have been AMAZING, I usually form a bond with them that is more of a friendship than a "client" relationship, which can be good and can be bad. I want to think that it's good. I have had my share of bad clients, as I think if you are dealing with the public, you just do. There are always a few bad apples. With all that has been going on in my life, orders have been mixed up and incorrect on a few of you. I send you my deepest apology and hope that if I corrected it for you in a timely manner. It's a matter of I need to get a better ordering system in place for me... I am a believer that I'm just not organized and therefore can not draw a straight line, walk a straight line nor color inside of the lines. But if there is a mistake in your order, please let me know asap and we will get it fixed. I appreciate each and every one of my wonderful clients that I've had the pleasure of photographing this year, new ones and the regulars.

New clients, I hope that you will be back, if not in the spring then in the fall. Regulars, you better be back. ;) Remember, all of you, that I will start filling up again next year for fall and if you tried to schedule with me this year and couldn't get an appointment, contact me in August for fall appointments. I will start booking for fall in August. I will, again, take the month of December off and I mean the whole month, except for finishing up orders.

I plan on running a Spring special and I will post it in mid February. As well as some other things I'm working on, including a new pricing structure. Thank you all for a wonderful fall season. I value every single one of you, even those of you that were angry with me because of issues with things that may have been out of my control or you didn't want me to fix.

Remember, you get back what you put out.

Custom Photography

The photographic art you choose to place on your wall is ultimately the result of the vision of the photographer. This vision, coupled with what you wear to your session, the environment, the lighting, even the mood the subjects are in at the time of photographing creates the work that you will want to proudly display on your walls forevermore.

What custom photography ultimately is all about is choice and experience (as in THE experience). Custom photography is about finding someone who will photograph your family, give you devoted 1:1 attention without worry of the next ‘in line’ or the feeling of a crowded portrait studio. A custom photographer will typically show you a fairly extensive gallery culled to only show the good images that meet the photographers’ creative sensibilities. Often the images are fully edited images-color corrected with blemishes and undereye circles removed. Custom photographers are also known as boutique studios, offering a range of products and unparalleled service. Think Lexus vs. Hyundai, think Nordstrom vs. WalMart.

Custom photography should have you, the client and your experience in mind

Often times clients will mention to their photographer that X studio in the mall/department store only charges $19.99 for an 8×10 “sheet” or they may mention other things related to discount photography chains. The fact is those discount chains make their money on volume, not on customized 1:1 service. In February 2007 leased photography retail space by a rather well known discount department store that started in Arkansas closed down 500 of their portrait studios across the nation? The reason is simple, you cannot make money on 99¢ “professional” prints if you do not sell enough of them. Interestingly enough – those same studios that offer the loss leader packages often charge much much more for their a la carte pricing (as high as $40-50 for an 8×10). The whole reason the big department stores began offering portrait services in the first place was to get you, the savvy consumer, in through their door so that you could spend more money with them in other departments. Your “PORTRAITS” are considered the “loss leader”.

Going to a chain studio, as a consumer, you don’t have the benefit of 1:1 attention for 2 hours at your home where your child is allowed to explore, play and be comfortable in their home environment, nor do you get the experience that many custom photographers are known for or the lovely captures of natural expressions. You simply get a bare bones, “SAY CHEESE” experience. Keep this in mind when selecting a photographer.

Keep in mind more than anything that the Lexus will never appreciate in value the way your portraits will. The portrait art you become invested in from your custom photographer will no doubt increase in value and become more priceless as the years pass.

I hope this (lengthy) article helps shed some light on WHY a custom photographer is a better choice for your family’s memories. The photographs that are produced as a result of the professionalism and dedication that your photographer has will be cherished for a lifetime (or more) and great thought and consideration should be placed into hiring who is right for your family’s most precious investment.

To my valuable and true clients

Just a note out to those of you that know me and are true and trusted clients. I have had a lot going on in my life, even though on the surface it doesn't show, some of you closest to me do know. Today my littlest woke with a fever. I had to cancel and session and unfortunately with no dates left to reschedule couldn't get the family in for their xmas photos. I was not happy to cancel, but had no choice. My family comes first, previous circumstances prevented me from being able to leave him with anyone else. I offered this "client" a set of 25 FREE xmas cards from a previous session that we did in October to make up for the fact that I was cancelling and couldn't reschedule. She was not mature enough to realize that sometimes things happen that are not in our control and when you work out of your home, well your business and your personal life does entertwine. So this is just a note to those of you that know me, you know that I'm passionate about my work, my clients and my family. If you hear negative things being said about me, please first consider the source, then if you feel the need, come to me for my side of the story. In the past two months I have had the horrible luck of having two customers that have proved to be thorns in my side. I dealt with them as best as I could in a professional manner, but for some reason, in a small town, there are still those that like to talk and bad mouth.

Know that I did try to accomodate this client, I was kind and apologized over and over for cancelling. The rain this year took the days that I would have had to reschedule because I was rescheduling everyone else due to the weather. So those of you that know me, you know that I'm not what may be said, but if you don't know me very well, as I said, please consider the source and if you want, ask because I will explain everything to you. I have nothing to hide and will give both sides to the story.

I just felt that I needed to state that as she is bad mouthing me all over a social networking site and if she continues I suppose I'll have to check on the statute of slander.

Fabulous Family Session

This was the most fun and a new beautiful location to boot. :) A beautiful church, the grounds were GORGEOUS, big huge trees, there is a really neat bridge that is cobblestone and we went down to shoot the one big family photo in front of the bricks... (love bricks by the way)

Anyway, as you could see, little Miss G was a big poser for me and I hope to photograph this beautiful family again. xoxo

I've photographed the first little one once before, but she was a lot smaller... they grow so fast and being someone who might only see them once every three months or so, it's amazing when you do see them again, to see the changes, the milestones, etc.

We finished up last Saturday with Megan's senior shoot. There were a few more spots that she wanted to be photographed at, so I agreed, of course, she is an awesome model and anything to photograph in high grass, right Megan? :)

A fun family session

A change in location for this session ended up being a GOOD THING. The family was to come down to my house but all of our trees are bare and the leaves that are on the ground are brown. This park is 60 miles north of us and still is so pretty and the grass is green, it's a beautiful park. I think we all made the right decision. :)

I can not tell you how fun this session was, simply because the whole family was relaxed and laid back and FUN. When the picture taking was over, we were discussing different photos on my site and I received the best compliment that anyone could ever give me, and I know I have thanked her a million times, but I'm going to tell everyone here as well what she told me. She said "I love your photography, it's not just photos, it's art" maybe not word for word but what I do remember clearly is that she views my photos as art and that is EXACTLY what I strive for. That meant so much to me, as a frustrated artist (at times) it means that someone finally does "get it" I know that most of my clients do get it or they wouldn't come to me for my style, but I think that liking my style and "getting me" is different and for that I thank you Jackie... from the bottom of my heart. And as a photographer and the fact that I use that as my tag line, it means that it is getting out there as I want it to, that I am taking your memories, your precious family photos and making them into art.

What a pleasure to photograph this little beauty. I have known her momma since we were in school. I love to be able to record memories for my clients, but especially those near and dear to my heart. I can't wait to photograph her as she grows.

My last session on Sunday was Megan. I love doing senior shoots. So much fun. These are just a few of my favorites, I couldn't post them all here, I would run out of room. This will be here for a while, I'll catch up my session posts soon, my blog is acting up and they are supposed to look in to it so bear with me.
